Our Technology
Traditional online tools work by uploading your file to a remote server, processing it there, and sending it back. This is slow and a privacy risk — worth caring about in particular when the file is a government ID, a scanned certificate, or a signed contract.
Safe Web Utils runs the actual processing — resizing, compression, format conversion, calculation — directly in your browser using WebAssembly and HTML5 Canvas rather than a server round-trip. The tools work the same offline once loaded, because there's nothing to send anywhere.
Why This Site Exists
Built by a developer tired of watching people paste tax documents, government ID photos, and signed contracts into random online tools just to resize a file or merge a PDF.
The site started with basic media and PDF utilities and grew from there into calculators and exam tools people were searching for — gold duty calculators, buy-vs-rent comparisons, exam photo resizers — always built around the same rule: process it locally, or don't build it.
How We Try to Get Things Right
Tools that touch exam applications, tax calculations, or real estate math need to actually be correct, not just functional. A few things we do about that:
- Automated tests against real specs: exam photo tools are tested against each board's published dimension and file-size requirements, not just eyeballed once and left alone.
- Figures are labeled as estimates where they are estimates: tax rates, duty rates, and market data change; where a calculator uses a figure that isn't pulled live from an authoritative source, we say so rather than presenting it as precise.
- No tracking of file content: since processing happens on your device, there is nothing about your files or inputs to track in the first place.
- Corrections get made: if you find a tool that's out of date with an exam board's current spec or a tax rate that's changed, tell us and we'll fix it — see something wrong below.
Found an Error?
If a calculator's numbers look wrong, an exam resizer doesn't match a board's current published spec, or anything on this site is out of date, let us know. Most of these tools track rules set by third parties (tax authorities, exam boards, customs agencies) that change without much notice, and we'd rather fix a mistake than leave it live.
