TN RTE Admission 2025: Eligibility, Documents & Online Application Process

The Right to Education (RTE) Act of 2009 guarantees free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14. In Tamil Nadu, this act provides a golden opportunity for parents from economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups to secure admission for their children in private matriculation schools. Under the 25% reservation quota, eligible students can study free of cost from LKG up to 8th Standard.

What is Tamil Nadu RTE Admission?

The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Matriculation Schools oversees the implementation of the RTE Act in the state. Every private non-minority school in Tamil Nadu is mandated to reserve 25% of their entry-level seats (usually LKG or Class 1) for children belonging to "Weaker Sections" and "Disadvantaged Groups". The government reimburses the tuition fees for these students directly to the schools. This initiative aims to ensure that quality education is accessible to all, irrespective of financial status or social background.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Weaker Sections (Income Based)

Children whose parents' annual family income is less than ₹2 Lakh per annum. An Income Certificate from the Revenue Department (Tahsildar) is mandatory to prove eligibility under this category.

Disadvantaged Groups (Social Category)

This includes children from SC/ST/BC/MBC communities, orphans, children affected by HIV, transgender children, and children of scavengers. A valid Community Certificate or relevant medical/special certificate is required.

If applications exceed available seats, a Random Draw of Lots (Lottery System) is conducted in the presence of an impartial officer and parents. The list of selected students is then published on the school notice board and the website.

Note: Giving false information or fake documents can lead to the cancellation of admission at any stage. Ensure all uploads are legitimate and clear.
