# What is TANCET?

The Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) is a state-level entrance examination conducted by Anna University, Chennai, on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu. It serves as the gateway for students aspiring to pursue postgraduate degrees such as Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Computer Applications (MCA) at various government, government-aided, and self-financing colleges across the state.

For engineering and technical programs like M.E., M.Tech, M.Arch, and M.Plan, the exam is now conducted as CEETA-PG (Common Engineering Entrance Test and Admission). While the application process is often centralized, the exams are distinct tailored to the specific discipline.

# Eligibility Criteria

To apply for TANCET 2025, candidates must strictly adhere to the following eligibility norms:

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess a recognized Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration (10+2+3/4/5 pattern). Final year students are also eligible to apply, provided they produce provisional certificates during counseling.
  • Minimum Marks:
    • General Category: Minimum 50% marks in the qualifying degree.
    • Reserved Categories (SC/ST/SCA of Tamil Nadu): Minimum 45% marks in the qualifying degree.

# Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme

MBA Pattern

The MBA paper consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) to be answered in 2 hours. It evaluates:

MCA Pattern

The MCA paper also comprises 100 MCQs with a 2-hour duration, focusing on:

The Common Engineering Entrance Test and Admissions (CEETA-PG) is specifically for engineering post-graduates. The paper is harder and more technical, consisting of three parts:

  • Part II (Common): Basic Engineering & Sciences. (35 Questions)
